The Bill Laurance & Michael League Duo
Snarky Puppy is a 10-piece band formed around bassist Michael League in Denton, Texas. For the past 20 years, the band has been delivering powerful, instrumental jazz-funk that recalls the great moments of the 1970s supergroup The Crusaders. Since then, The Fam has grown to include no less than 40 musicians who take turns supporting the band's many tours.
Snarky Puppy has helped launch the solo careers of leading musicians such as pianist Bill Laurance, as well as smaller musical projects such as the duo Bill Laurance & Michael League, who performed on January 11, 2024 for the opening night of the brand-new jazz club Les Jumeaux in downtown Lausanne, Switzerland (1).
« I don't really think of Snarky Puppy as a collective. It's just a large band and sometimes people aren't there. It doesn't feel like a revolving door, it doesn't feel anonymous at all. The guys who have played gigs with us the least have still played several hundred gigs. That's more than most people play with their own bands. So it's very much a tight, familial unit. Everyone feels very, very close and very essential, also. » Michael League (2).
