The legendary 4tet with Michel Petrucciani live at Nyon Jazz

Charles Lloyd & Michel Petrucciani 4tet

After playing with the great musicians of the new thing, Charles Lloyd is known for his 4tet experiences, in which each musician has his own identity, beginning in 1965 with Keith Jarrett on piano, Cecil McBee on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums.

Michel Petrucciani is a powerful French pianist who overcame the effects of a bone disease that severely stunted his growth. After playing with Kenny Clarke and Clark Terry at the age of 15, he toured France with Lee Konitz in a duo.

After a long retreat to Big Sur on California coast, Charles Lloyd returned to the stage in 1981 with a new, stunning 4tet featuring 18-year-old Michel Petrucciani on piano, Pale Danielsson on bass and Woody Sonship Theus on drums. The 4tet toured the USA and the world in 1982 and 1983 and played at the Nyon Jazz festival.

Charles Lloyd's favorite playground remains the stage and collective improvisation in small groups, where he excels.
